RE: Letter Received about Tax Credits Review (TC3MM)
I have now received a follow-up letter notifying a decision. Again, the communication 'looks' authentic. Also, there is no suspicious-seeming content and I'm not being asked to pay anything or provide any bank account details - I'm therefore happy that the original letter was not a scam. Not relevant here really, but the process must surely represent a waste of HMRC operating costs at the expense of taxpayers. It might be of public interest to be advised what/who triggered an investigation into a Tax Credits matter from so relatively long ago in the past - it certainly was not because of any application I made myself. However, I am not asking for a HMRC response on this question as this would involve further pointless effort and costs. -
Tax Credits for the tax year 2012-13
I submitted this enquiry on 14-10-24 and again on 16-10-24, but have had no reply and cannot see the thread online. I have a TC3MM letter dated 11-10-24 about tax credits for the tax year 2012-13. This long after then, I'm concerned this may be a scam? If not, why would I receive such a letter without any prompt from me please? An amount of nearly £4,000 is mentioned - I can't tell if this refers to what I have been previously paid or if it is an amount which may be due to me. I have tried to find out about this by calling 0345 300 3900 but gave up after being on hold for a very long time. Will appreciate any advice/guidance please. -

Letter Received about Tax Credits Review (TC3MM)
I have an official looking letter that refers to a tax credits review for 2012-13. Why would this be happening in 2024 please? It's made me fear this could be a scam. If it is legitimate, I can't understand the intended outcome - it states that a decision will be made on 10-11-24 and refers to an amount of nearly £4,000 - but I can't tell if this is an amount already paid or one that is due to me. I have tried phoning 0345 300 3900, but gave up after being half and hour on hold. Please advise. Many thanks.
