I did sub contracting work for a construction company for the past 2 months. They deducted 20% of my pay for 7 weeks while I waited for my UTR number. I've emailed them asking them to make my tax and NI contributions, but they refuse to answer. I have payslips, bank transfers and emails confirming that they took the 20%. What is the best course of action for me to take now? And advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi

If you have a UTR and you have done sub-contracting work for a construction company who have deducted 20%, and they have provided you with monthly statements of payment and deductions, you now need to register as a sub-contractor.
Guidance can be found in the following link: What you must do as a Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) subcontractor
Help with registering for CIS is listed on the ‘Overview’ page
The information under the heading ‘Get paid’ and ‘Pay tax and claim back deductions’ should assist you.
I hope this assists you.

Thank you.
