hi i just registered for self assessment as i started a small business this Jan 2024, i’ve only earned about £700 until 6th Apr 2024 so i believe i won’t need to file tax return for 2023-2024, but still registered just in case, i just thought i would do it asap, and now waiting for my UTR number to receive, my question is, once i receive UTR, can i just keep this number for next year when i file tax return for 2024-2025? or did i register too soon? thank you

hi it's me again, I've heard that once I got UTR number I would need to remove self assessment for 2023/2024, is that right? I beliebe I could just do so online? thank you

Hi

Your UTR is the number you will use to file any Self Assessment return you need to file from 23/24 and onwards.
If you've registered to file a 23/24 tax return but no longer need to do so, you need to contact us so that we can cancel your need to file that return - you can do this via
Self Assessment tax returns  or by contacting us by webchat or phone via Self Assessment: general enquiries

Thank you

thank you so much for your answer, ok I got it, I'm still waiting for my UTR to come so once I got them I will do so, thank you. and also, I will need to file self assessment return for next year 24/25 since I've been earning more than £1000 from this April to today, in this case should I just register for self assessment again next year? thank you
