My divorce came through and my ex-wife has been instructed to sell the property which I have not lived in for many years. This could take some time and given I stand to gain little from the proceeds of the marital home, I'd like to get back on the ladder now and not wait for her to sell the property. I paid a lot of money throughout the divorce process to tax experts etc and they worked out what is or isn't owed based on our circumstances. However, it's dawned on me now that I didn't ask if I needed to wait for the house to be sold before buying another... It could take a year to sell that house and I'm in limbo now and for years actually in trying to divorce which has seemed an impossible task in England. Need I worry about this, or am I free to move on and do as I like with no tax repercussions? Your advice appreciated.

Hi

There is nothing from a tax perspective that would prevent you from purchasing another property.
It may be worth checking with your solicitor that doing so, does not affect the terms of your divorce.

Thank you
