Question 1: I converted 46,500 Hong Kong dollars into 5,000 Pound Sterling and then after 10 days converted 5,000 Pound Sterling into 6,000 US dollars. As the acquisition cost and disposal price of the assets (i.e. Pound Sterling) in terms of Pound Sterling are exactly the same at 5,000, assuming these transactions are for investment, do I need to report or calculate the capital gain or loss for these transactions? Question 2: Similar to above situation, I converted 5,900 US dollars into 5,000 Pound Sterling and then sold all the 5,000 Pound Sterling for 6,000 US dollars after on the same day. In terms of Pound Sterling, the acquisition cost and sale proceeds of the Pound Sterling are exactly 5000, is it no gain or loss? or there is a gain of USD100 (6000 minus 5900) ? If it is a gain, how to calculate it in terms of GBP?
