Hello, I've been getting some different information from different accountants/tax advisors about this. I'm Spanish, resident in the UK since 2015 and declared as no resident in Spain. All my family are Spanish and they have never lived in the UK. I work full time in the UK and I don't have any income in Spain. My mum passed away on 2020 so I inherited a 10% of my parents house in Spain (my dad owned 50 % and my mum 50% so when she died, her part was split between her 5 kids following her will instructions. Recently we have sold the property so I've got a 10% of the value of the selling, this money has been declared in Spain and taxes paid for too. I have been trying to get some information because I would like to transfer the money over to the UK at some point and I don't know if I have to declare it here or the protocol to follow. As I said, been getting different information from different professionals. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Ana,

You need to declare the sale as this is a capital gain in the UK. you would be able to claim foreign tax credit relief for the Spanish tax paid to
reduce any potential UK liablility - Tax when you sell property

Thank you.

Hi, I am a UK citizen, UK resident and UK domiciled. I also hold dual Pakistani citizenship. I inherited agricultural land from my father who was a Pakistani citizen only. However the land was not legally transferred into my name until a few years after his death. I have recently sold the land and paid the necessary taxes in Pakistan. I'm looking to bring the proceeds of the sale over to the UK. With regards to CGT, is the base cost the price of the land at the date of my father's death or the date it was transferred into my name?

Hi,

It is the date of your fathers death you will use and the valuation at that time will be your 'cost' price.

Thank you.
