Hello. My wife receives Carers Allowance as our children are disabled. She owns land abroad and wants to sell it later this year and transfer money to UK. We've taken advice from accountant and have been informed that she will have to pay Capital Gains Tax. I also have a full time job. 1) Does Capital Gains affect Child Benefit? Will we be hit by high income Child Benefit charge? 2) Does Capital gains affect Carers Allowance? Earnings threshold is £139 a week in 2023/2024 3) Does Capital Gains is recognised as earnings or income? We asked similar questions using twitter and got different answers and we are confused now. Kind regards

Hi

HMRC cannot comment on future events as legislation and/or plans may change. However, based on current guidance any gains doesn't affect the high income child benefit charge.
For the carers allowance, you would need to check with the DWP . Capital gains is classed as income.

Thank you
