Hello, I have recently submitted a capital gains real time transaction but have realised that I made a mistake in the submission. Is there any way to amend a capital gains real time transaction submission, and if yes, how? While I received a submission reference when I submitted it over three weeks ago, I have not received any further communication since. Thanks!

Hi mfs95,
You’ll need to submit a new report using your report reference number starting with ‘RTT’.
You’ll be sent this number by email after you first use the service.
Thank you.

Thanks! How do I get the "report reference number"? When I submitted the transactions, I received a submission reference number, is this the same as the "report reference number"?

Hi,

Yes, it is the same.

Thank you.

Hi, None of the submission reference numbers I received start with "RTT" (they are all 10 digits, though). When I tried to update the transaction report online, and entered the submission reference number, it did not work (it says "Enter a valid report reference number"). I tried with and without the hyphens in the submission reference number, and as mentioned, I have not received any further communication since submitting the transaction a month ago.

I have exactly the same problem, there is clearly a system issue. Asking people to ring in and hang on for extended periods of time isn't helpful as they are just going to repeat what they've put on the forum. Please fix it as it's very frustrating.

DId anyone resolved it sucessfully? I spoke on chat and called line and was told to basicly create new report and it will be overwritten? i am confused on the process in that case what is the point of the code send over email if it cannot be used to make amends. How does it work now payment wise? with 2 reports i will i have to pay twice and ask for refund later?

Webchat facility said they are unable to provide RTT and lady there was even confused what i am referencing so it wasnt much help. Calling line provided little to no help as well as was told they are unable to give me RTT number until they start reviewing application. Was told to just submit new application, Honestly quite a bad experience any location send for help cannot provide answer and now i am in limbo waiting to see if i will be forced to pay for two application about same GT and look for refund (which is apparently impossible to get).

Hi, Following up on this as I experienced the same issue. I submitted four capital gain tax loss events on 27/09 and would like to amend them. I called the number displayed on this post and managed to speak with a HMRC staff who told me to call the digital team. The digital team told me I should raise an online support request which I did on 30/09. I haven't received any news since. My references are marked as "Received" and the reference number for each is a 10 digit combination of numbers and letters (not starting with RTT). Bearing in mind this is an issue shared by several users, I wanted to flag it here before calling again. Thank you

Hi, I thought I'd add my experience of using the RTT service and hopefully it might help someone. I submitted it in June and realized I needed to amend it as I'm actually overpaying from my calculations. It showed as 'Received'. Just like others, I tried to find my RTT number thinking I could just log in and attached the amendment as a note or something. Rang several times and no-one had a clue. Must have spent 5 hrs on the phone in total. Here's the thing: You do not get an RTT number until it is marked as 'Completed' by HMRC. In my case, this took 4 months. Even now, it's not simple. You have to go through the whole process again (now able to attach an RTT number), but then what? Another 4 months of waiting? Also there's the weird potential quirk of HMRC thinking it's another submission so you're paranoid you'll have to pay twice. Such a terrible experience, especially if you're new to online tax. Good luck out there.
