Hi. I am a Hong Konger arriving in May 2022 with a BNO Visa. I now intend to sell my main residence in Hong Kong, as my mother, who has been living in my residence, is moving to Australia to join my sister there. As my BNO Visa tax holiday of 9 months has expired, will I still be entitled to the Private Residence Relief and be relieved from CGT if I eventually remit the proceeds to the UK for use. Thank you.

Hi Jeannie WK Yuen,

If you left the property more than 9 months ago, full private residence relief will not be available - HS283 Private Residence Relief (2023).
For remittance, please refer to - Remittance basis 2023 (HS264

Thank you.
