Hi, I sell on on a couple of sites such as etsy and ebay. When I receive an international sale, a sales tax is collected. Do I record sales tax as gross income and then as an expense? Thank you

Hi You will need to explain further what you mean by sales tax . Are you referring to import duties and taxes on goods being imported into other countries or UK VAT. If this is an accounting question then you should probably ask your accountant.

Hi Laura Davis,

That is correct.

Thank you.

Hi Customs oldtimer, When an international sale comes through on ebay or etsy, it shows 'Sales tax paid by buyer (Remitted)' along with the amount they paid, the item is then dispatched to them from the UK to outside of the UK. I am not VAT Reg. I know a few other sellers who's accountant's are recording it as gross income and then an expense and others not recording as they say we never actually touched it as it was remitted.
