Probably a rather daft question, so apologies in advance, but I receive my rental income on my rental property, from a management company who take their share out first. Is my rental income the total income received by the management company, or the total I receive from the management company (i.e. the rent - their fee). I am just trying to workout if I am eligibile to claim for the £1000 property allowance, or if I am claiming for the management fee expense Thanks ever so much

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

Property management fees are considered an allowable expense if they are incurred 'wholly and exclusively' in the rental of the property.

This means that they should be essential to the running and maintenance, such as tenant acquisition, rent collection etc.

If they meet this criteria then yes, they are claimable.

Thank you
