When do I register for self-assessment?

Hi, first time renting out... Tenancy started on 1st November this year so when should I be registering for self-assessment and when would the the first self-assessment form need to be submitted?

You must tell HMRC by 5 October 2024 if you need to complete a tax return and have not sent one before. However we recommend registering as soon as you can.

Deadline for submitting a paper return
If you’re doing a paper tax return, you must submit it by midnight 31 October 2024.

Deadline for submitting an online return
If you’re doing an online tax return, you must submit it by midnight 31 January 2025.

Thank you. Does that mean I wouldn’t submit a return in December for the Nov/Dec 2023 rental income?

You would have until 5 october 2024 to tell us that you need to complete a tax return.
You would have until 31 October 2024 to complete a paper return and 31 January 2025 to submit an online return.
