Hi Can I still claim 20% tax relief on the finance Cost (Mortgage Interest) on my rental property for 2023/2024? If yes, where do I enter the required informtion on filling my Online tax return, as I cannot find it this year. Many thanks

Hi,
Residential property finance costs can be claimed for 2023-24 and should be entered at box 44 on the online tax return.
Thank you.

Hi Clare Fletcher,
Please accept our apologies for providing incorrect information.
Relief for residential finance cost can be found under the section - Profits and losses for other property income.
Thank you

hi @HMRC Please can you let me/us know with a yes/no answer to my question: Are my wife and I able to claim any tax relief against mortgage interest payments on our jointly owned rental property? If so, where specifically do we enter the mortgage payment amount? Thank you

Hi Imre de Daranyi,
This is a forum for general queries so I would not be able to give you a definite yes or no on your personal circumstances, however you may be able to claim a basic rate 20% tax reduction to the lower of your finance costs, property business profits or adjusted total income.
Guidance can be found at Tax relief for residential landlords: how it's worked out the finance costs (not your full mortgage payment) should be entered in to the box ’Residential property finance costs’ in the UK property income section of your tax return, if you are completing a paper tax return this is on page UKP2 of the SA105 box number 44.
Thank you.
