Hi there, I have a question about the CF83 form. I lived and worked abroad for 8 years so feel I may need to pay some NI contributions. Looking at my account, the payments seem high considering I was paying tax elsewhere, so I understand that I will probably need to complete a CF83 form so this can be looked into. However, I would like to speak to Future Pensions to see if it is even necessary for me to pay the contributions at this stage. When I contacted them yesterday, they said there is an 8 week wait just for a callback. As this is the case, it'll be May by the time they contact me! I understand that if a callback is requested before 5th April, that contributions can still be paid further down the line. However, is the same true for the CF83 form? Am I able to submit this after the deadline because of the delay at Future Pensions? Or should I just submit the form anyway and then decide later (once I've heard from Future Pensions) whether I should pay the contributions? Many thanks for your help.

Hi,
We advise anyone who wishes to pay voluntary contributions for periods abroad to submit their CF83 application form before 5 April 2025 deadline even if waiting for a callback from DWP. If you submit a CF83 form prior to 5 April 2025, we will process it as quickly as possible. No one who has sent a form on time will be disadvantaged. Once we issue your shortfall to you, you will be given time to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions after the deadline has passed.

Hi, We have submitted cf83 forms online via the GOV UK site. After submitting cf83 forms online via the GOV site although I can now see the Submittred Form and reference via the HMRC app on iPhone (and approx date for reply in Aug 25) however my wife cannot see hers on her HMRC app on android phone. It’s as if it hasn’t been recorded in the app despite receiving an email confirmation . Is there a known problem with this app not working correctly on android … or any steps she could take to fix it. ? Assume receiving the email confirmation with reference number is sufficient and doesn’t need to call HMRC to check it’s been received. ? Please advise. Just putting up here in case others have same problem.

I am also waiting for a callback for a letter received in December after submitting the CF83 form online. Should I pay before April 5th or just wait? I don't want to risk not being able to pay my VCs!

I have requested a call back from the "Pension" people but I would like to point out that there is no "confirmation" given that a person has made a call back request which obviously is quite worrying for those people who have received the response CF83 and are now waiting from the Pension people. Perhaps you could mention this?

As long as you have registered your name with the DWP Future Pensions for a call back about paying voluntary National Insurance contributions then you will be given extra time to pay any voluntary National Insurance contributions that you wish.
