Hello everyone. I have a questions regarding the class 2 National insurance contributions. I received a letter from HMRC that say I can pay for the gap in my years. Up to hear no problem. They have included a table with the years and the amounts. Also up to this point no problem. when I log in online on the portal I check my gap but I see the class 3 amount for each year. Does anyone know why that is? How can I correct it? Thank you in advance.

Hello there, I posted a message a few minutes ago, it is yet to be published. In that post, I had mentioned the same thing. Looking at other posts in the forum, it would seem that what we see online – the PTA (Personal Tax Account) - always displays class 3 by default, even if you qualify for class 2, as not everyone qualifies for the latter. If you have the letter from the international team showing the table with the shortfalls etc. and confirming class 2 then it is this what will be applied upon processing. This is my opinion, so take it with a proverbial pinch!

Hi sananemos,
I can advise that Personal Tax Accounts always show any shortfalls of voluntary National Insurance contributions at the class 3 rate.
If you wish to pay any voluntary contributions then please use the figures in the letter that you’ve received from us rather than the amounts shown on your Personal Tax Account.
Thank you.
