I applied for Specified Adult Child Care Credits for the 2023/24 financial year through my daughter as I provide child care for my grandson. My application has been rejected because the Child Benefit claimant's earnings (my daughter) were not equal to or above the qualifying earnings factor for the tax year 2023 to 2024, despite that the fact that she has full NI contributions for the 2023/24 year. This is important as I have a one year gap in my NI contributions before I receive my State Pension inAugust 2024. Can someone explain why my application does not meet the qualifying conditions. If I make a new claim via my other daughter and my claim is successful but is not processed until after I receive my State Pension will it be backdated to I can claim my full pension.

Hi,
An application for SACC will be rejected if the original Child Benefit claimant does not have a full qualifying year in their own right (ie without the Class 3 credits).
In this case it would appear the daughter needed the Cl3 credits to make 23/24 a full year on her own record, therefore nobody can claim SACC in that year.
If an application for SACC in relation to another daughter goes through then the year will be made a qualifying year, however if this is done after she has started receiving the state pension any decision on backdating the award is a matter for The Pension Service/DWP.
Thank  you.
