Hello, I am a British teacher living in Germany. I pay Type 2 NI contributions which totals around 160/180 gbp per year. I have not worked in the UK since 2018. I would like to work in the UK on a temporary basis (no longer than about two weeks) as a supply teacher. This means that I would have a UK income to a UK bank account. If I do this, would I lose my Type 2 NI status and need to reapply for this? My understanding is that I would NOT lose the type 2 status but that any NI contributions would be paid towards my existing type 2 contributions, is this correct? Any help you can offer would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks, David

Hi,
When you do return to the UK to work please let us know that you have returned as you will no longer be able to pay the voluntary class 2 National Insurance contributions.
Your UK employer will deduct class 1 National Insurance contributions from your salary for your period of employment in the UK.
When you do return overseas then please submit a new CF83 application form and we will be able to help you further about paying voluntary contributions whilst overseas.
Thank you.
