Regarding the news 'You will soon be able to use your Personal Tax account to check if you can make voluntary National Insurance contributions. You will also be able to approve a payment through your online bank account using the online service', anyone able to tell me when this will be available? I wish to make voluntary NI contributions but have not been able to get through to get the reference number. Time is running out. I've been trying for months and months and months.

Hi Evyn Eyespy

I am afraid this tool is still in the development stage. Full details of how it can be used will be provided when they are available.

At present, the only way to pay online is using the reference number provided by calling the NI helpline on 0300 200 3500. Lines are open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.

If you still have a cheque book, have checked with DWP that the payment will increase your pension entitlement and know how much to pay, you can send in a cheque to –

National Insurance Contributions & Employer Office
HM Revenue & Customs
BX5 5BD

Make the cheque payable to 'HM Revenue and Customs only'

Write your NINO on the back of the cheque and include a covering letter to advise which year(s) you are paying.

Thanks
