Good evening. I am self-employed but next year I plan to go abroad for a few years. I would like to pay Voluntary National Insurance class 2. In this case, will I be able to close my self-employment and pay annually Voluntary National Insurance class 2 or to pay Voluntary National Insurance class 2 do I have to be self employed if I live abroad? Thank you for your answer.

Hi Haggard92c,
When you end your period of UK self-employment, please call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 to update your National Insurance account.
If you’d like to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions whilst overseas, please read leaflet NI38 ‘Social Security Abroad’ and then complete and return our CF83 application form. The NI38 and CF83 application form may be found Social Security abroad: NI38
To be entitled to pay voluntary class 2 contributions whilst overseas, a person must have been normally employed or self-employed in the United Kingdom before their departure and employed or self-employed overseas.
These may be paid by annual payment or by direct debit from a UK or Channel Islands bank account.
Thank you.
