Hi there, I wish to apply for a Form A1 in order to be granted a Spanish digital nomad working visa extension - I understand HMRC requests a signed statement accompanying to support such an application - could I please request guidance as to the content of the signed statement? The relevant web page states: "If you’re applying for a certificate of coverage for a period longer than allowed, you’ll need to attach a signed statement. The signed statement should cover why you want to continue paying UK National Insurance while working abroad and how it’s in your best interest. " (Apply for a certificate confirming you will pay UK National Insurance when working temporarily abroad (CA3822)) The reason that I wish to apply for an Form A1 is as follows I'm in Spain on a digital nomad visa, which I'm permitted to extend to a maximum total of five years . My current visa has been granted for 18 months - my lawyer says it could have been longer (three is pretty standard) - but for the fact my current A1 was only for 18 months. Thus my interest is getting my next A1 for as long as possible (ideally three years and six months to last me through the five years permitted in Spain on a DNV). Is this explanation, for example a sufficient explanation of my "best interests" or would further supporting material be required? Would it be possible, in any event, to offer some more detailed guidance on what HMRC expects in relation to "best interests" as I'm sure this would be helpful to others in this situation, notwithstanding my particular circumstances. Saludos...

Hi,
Unfortunately, it would depend on numerous circumstances and can change on a case by case basis.
We would require a sufficient explanation of your "best interests" and further supporting evidence would be required.
To discuss your case in more detail and your ‘best interests’ please write to:
PT Operations,
North East England,
HMRC,
BX9 1AN
Thank you.
