I telaphoned helpline again 31st july 2024 very helpfull lady also confirmed payment had been received in may and the years it was to be allocated to, told me she would send urgent email to the team dealing with overseas to ask them to allocate my payment and send me recipt for same. I stillnot had the payment allocated or received any recipt. Its now 21 weeks since payment was received, how long more will it take for the payment to br allocated and my record showing so on line. Thank you

Hi, Similarly I paid Class 2 national insurance contributions for previous years whilst I was abroad on 1st May 2024. I have phoned 5 times and contacted 3 times over live chat as well HMRC reps. Every time I get a response that the payment has been received and it is awaiting allocation, my request is always escalated to the international team and should be a few weeks before I see my records updated (which never happens). This is already 26 weeks and counting. I just need a concrete answer when I should check again. Note under https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/guidance/Check-when-you-can-expect-a-reply-from-HMRC/question/national-insurance-contact there is no option to check when to expect an answer for paying online Class 2 Voluntary National Insurance Contributions whilst abroad (that I can see at least). I would really appreciate an updated response here as this is now becoming quite stressful and I would appreciate any help here. Thanks

I sent a payment July 4th 2024. The link above says for online "You should have received a reply by 1 September 2024" and for post "You should receive a reply by September 2025". I am unclear if payment sent via bank transfer are considered online or post. Can you please clarify the difference between responding to correspondence and processing bank transfer payments? Clearly the funds are in HMRC account, but I understand that it takes time to apply this to my NI account Thanks George

Hi K P,
The timescale for the team who will allocate your payment is currently 45 weeks, they are currently working on work dated 16/ December 2023. However, if you have already spoken to an advisor on the helpline, and an escalation has been issued to the International team, your payment should be allocated sooner. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a timescale for the escalation.
Thank you.

Hi Gwbiker,
For the purposes of timescales, a bank transfer payment is slightly different to the online and post categories. The timescale for the team who will allocate your payment is currently 45 weeks, they are currently working on work dated 16 December 2023.
Thank you.
