I have two questions: 1. If I am a remittance basis user and also a self- employed in UK, whether I am still entitled to get the $1000 Trading and Property Allowance as I am a remittance basis and I know I dont have personal allowance of $12570 for my case. 2. As I am a self -employed and if my annual income is below $2000 per year (ie below Small Profits Threshold), how can I choose to pay Class 2 NI? What should I do to make me qualify to pay Class 2 NI? Thank you!

Hi VP,

1/   You will get the trading allowance as this will apply to your UK income that would still need to be reported under the remittance basis.
You can only claim this if your are self employed and you are not claiming other expenses against your self employment.

2/  If you are registered to pay Class 2 NICs, you complete the self employed pages of the tax return and tick the relevant box to pay Class 2 NICs voluntarily.

Thank you.
