Hi, I have paid a voluntary payment to my national insurance to fill gaps in my national insurance. last week. However, I omitted the personal reference number on my payment which identified which payment I was making. Could you advise whether this will affect my payment or if there is a way in which I can inform HMRC NI online or by post of the number so that they can align the payment to my record correctly. Many thanks.

Hi
Please wait 10 working days from making your payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions then call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 (from the UK) or +44 191 203 7010 (from overseas) and they will be able to help you further.  Please have your National Insurance Number and payment details with you when you call.

Thank you for this response. I called the Helpline but unfortunately, was just given recorded information, without being able to speak to a person, regardless of which options I chose on the phone. It would be much quicker to pass on the specific reference number by talking to someone. Is there a number to ring where I could actually get through to a person to speak to? Failing this, is there an address to which I could write, in order to pass on the necessary information. Many thanks.
