Hi, if someone who does not work as an employee only occassionally sells goods online (ie Etsy) but their turnover (not profits) is less that £1000/year, can they register as a sole trader in order to be able to pay voluntary contributions towards the state pension? thanks

Hi darengr

You can register for self employment if you earn under 1000, you will need to complete the box that your profits re over £1000 to allow you to complete, then check the option to pay voluntary contributions.  Once you complete your figures, they will show that your profits are less than £1000 but will allow you to pay voluntary.

Thanks
