Hi I paid four missing years for my state pension to take me to 35 years in March 21. My pension was not increased and DWP said it was due to an issue with HMRC. The back payment has finally been made in September 2023. I have received a letter of apology from HMRC. Can I claim interest for the late payment? It’s a substantial sum and interest Frunze to three figures. Thanks.

Hi tmshep,

If you could write in to us (include as many details as possible about your payment and our delay) and address your letter to the Complaints Team, then they will be able to provide you with a full reply to answer your query.

The address to write to is:
Complaints Team
HM Revenue & Customs
BX9 1AN
I hope that this is of some help.

Thank you.

Hi, My National Insurance record for 2022/23 has still not been updated, to reflect on my State Pension, despite us almost being in the next tax year. I have tried calling, but to no avail. How can I get this updated? It is my last qualifying year and I am now in receipt of SP.

Hi sherpavanwoman,
When payments are received and added to an account they are posted with the actual date they are received by HMRC so if the payment has been processed after you started receiving your pension, the DWP can make good any arrears that you should have received – if this doesn’t happen automatically you can call The Pension Service.  In terms of checking that your payment has been processed you can check via your Personal Tax Account (PTA) or by speaking to our NI Helpline.
Thank you.
