Hi Hoping someone can provide some insight. A UK citizen living in USA needs to claim SSDI over there. To do so, 38 "work credits" are needed. Is it possible to use some work credits from NI contributions in UK to reach that threshold? My understanding is that there is an International agreement which would allow this. If so, would it affect entitlement to UK state pension - that is, reducing what you can get because you have used those NI contributions elsewhere? Or would your contributing years remain the same? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
You will need to contact the authorities who grant the SSDI to see if UK National insurance can’t be taken into effect in your eligibility calculation. You will then need to ask what they require for you to prove that these credits exist so we can produce the correct documents. Once you know which document you need you can apply online through gov.uk.
If you need further advice, you can contact National Insurance on 0300 200 3500 if calling from the UK or +44 191 203 7010 if calling from abroad.
Thank you.
