using UK work credits towards SSDI (social security disability insurance) claim in USA
Hi Hoping someone can provide some insight. A UK citizen living in USA needs to claim SSDI over there. To do so, 38 "work credits" are needed. Is it possible to use some work credits from NI contributions in UK to reach that threshold? My understanding is that there is an International agreement which would allow this. If so, would it affect entitlement to UK state pension - that is, reducing what you can get because you have used those NI contributions elsewhere? Or would your contributing years remain the same? Thanks in advance for any help.
