During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, I have been working full-time and getting paid weekly. A portion of my weekly income is deducted for National Insurance (NI) contributions. According to the guidelines for Class 1 contributions, earnings between £242 and £967 per week from one job are subject to an 8% NI contribution. However, I am employed by an agency and, despite receiving weekly pay, I do not always have work every week. This means there are some weeks without income and, consequently, no NI contributions. Could you please clarify if this situation will affect my ability to achieve a full year’s record for NI contributions? Thank you.

Hi Raymond_34 Mond,
It is possible if you are paid weekly but some weeks have no income you may potentially be leaving gaps in your record.
However there is the opportunity to voluntary pay off any gaps you leave with class 3 National Insurance contributions.
We do however advise speaking to the Future Pensions Centre first before making any voluntary contributions.
You can set up a Personal Tax Account or ring our customer service helpline to enquire if there is a gap in your record.
Please find a Link to set up a PTA and our and the Future Pensions Centre contact details below.
