Hi, My wife is British citizen now living in Serbia. She used to live in England for seven years and moved to Serbia about a year ago. I have never worked in England however my NI record shows that I have four years worth of NI credits in England. She is self-employed in Serbia and would like to know if shewould be eligible to purchase class 2 NI credits? Thanks

Hi knn85 Lazic,
In order to apply to pay Voluntary National Insurance for periods when living and/or working outside the UK you must fill in a CF83 form to apply to pay.

Thanks very much for your reply. Just to clarify me and my wife are both British citizens, we used to live in England. My wife has never worked in the UK, however she has been granted four years worth of NI credits before leaving the UK. We have filled out the required form to purchase class 2 NI credits. Can you please clarify how long we will roughly need to wait to hear from HMRC. Also, from your experience does my wife qualify because she she never worked in England, she is now self-employed in Serbia? Thanks

Hi
Our International caseworker team (Rest of the World) are currently dealing with work from 10 July 2023.
So currently there is a timescale of the very most 46 weeks. however timescales can change.
I am unable to advice on this forum whether your wife would qualify, you must wait for a response from the CF83 application.
Thank you.
