I ended my full-time employment at the end of June and do not intend to seek employment for the rest of this tax year. Thus for this tax year, having only worked for roughly 3 months, I earned £9170, yet through my payroll I have paid £482 in NI. I will be of state pensionable age in late April 2025. Is there a way for me to reclaim the NI contributions I have already paid, because I will be below the annual threshold for paying NI in the year 2024/25? Can I do this now or do I have to wait to do self assessment at the end of the tax year? If I can reclaim NI, how do I do it. Online suggests my former employer would need to do this.

Hi,
From the details that you have provided, it would appear that the class 1 National Insurance contributions that your employer deducted from your salary were correct and not available to be refunded.
This is because National Insurance contributions are calculated when you received your salary and you were, therefore, liable to pay them.
You may wish to obtain a State Pension Forecast via Check your State Pension forecast which will detail your current and future entitlement to a UK State Pension.
Thank you.
