Hi, Could someone advise on NI contributions; if my income was below the personal allowance threshold do I have to pay NI contribution? I was charged NI contributions and I was wondering if I could request a refund. I am an employee. Thank you!

Hi Laura,
In order for us to look more into your account please contact the National Insurance Enquiry helpline on this phone number:0300 200 3500. Opening Hours are 8am-6pm Monday-Friday.
Alternatively you could visit the website link below which provides you with an online calculator to see how much tax and National Insurance you should be paying on any payslip.
Work out an employee's National Insurance contributions
If you have been overcharged National Insurance the first step would be talking to your employer to request a refund. If your unable to contact your employer and you haven’t received any automated refund form from HMRC. You should write into:
Payment Reconciliation Team
National Insurance Contributions and Employer Office
HM Revenue and Customs
BX9 1AN
Provide us with your National Insurance Number and explain which tax years and which class of NICs you have overpaid along with a P60 or statement from their employer or employers showing NICs deducted from wages during the tax year.
Thank you.
