Hi there, I work as a full time employeefor a foreign employer that is not present in the UK. It is not required to pay NI. I have to fill in a self assesment and oay UK tax. I also need to pay UK national insurance but I do not know how I do this and how it is calculated. Does anyone have any general guidance to offer about this? Thanks! Jamie

Hi Jamie James,
You have the ability to set up a DCNI scheme which will allow you to run a payroll and pay the NI due to HMRC.
Please contact us on 0300 200 3200 and an adviser will be able to send a referral to another department to register this.
Thank you.

Hi HMRC team, 0300 200 3200 is the number I called an hour ago regarding DCNI scheme, however the advisor replied that I do not liable to pay NI if my employer have no connection with UK. Is she correct? What should I do now? Will I have to pay penalty charge because of the delay?

Hi ,

Thank you for your enquiry.

A DCNI scheme is required to report employee NIC only.

If an employee is working and living in the UK and the employee is working for an overseas employer who has no UK premises the employee must open a DCNI scheme to account for employees NIC and they would report their tax through self assessment.

There would be no employers NIC.

I apologise if you were given incorrect information.

If you want to discuss this in more detail you can call 0300 200 3200 and ask to speak to a technical adviser.

Thank you .
