If a company were to allow it's team members one paid volunteering day per year, would that day be classed as working hours for national minimum wage purposes? E.g. for one day a year, the team member is able to volunteer for a registered charity of their choice & receives full pay for their normal scheduled hours. If the volunteered hours are less than the TM's normal scheduled day, they still receive full pay. If the hours volunteered are more than the normal scheduled day, the TM still only receives pay based on their normal scheduled hours for that day.

Hi,
Unfortunately, without understanding the full pay and contractual arrangements in place, including the type of work being performed for National Minimum Wage (NMW) purposes, we are unable to provide you with a full response.
For further information, please see the ‘Calculating the Minimum Wage’ publication which is available at Calculating the minimum wage - Guidance - GOV.UK
(Calculating the minimum wage).
Thank you.
