Hello - I am going to be homeless and have no childcare or schooling due to incorrect information given to me by HMRC. Can somebody please help? I applied for my A1 certificate (needed to obtain a visa when working abroad) online on June 20th. At that time, the wait was significantly shorter than it is now; so I followed up several times by telephone (03002003500) and, on several occasions, was told that I would receive the certificate before the end of July. I made accommodation and childcare arrangements based on this advice (I have two young children). I.e. I now have nowhere to live in the UK and no childcare/schooling for my child. I was later telephoned back by HMRC and told that I was given incorrect information and that I could expect the form in September. I am now being told by HMRC to expect the form in October. By October, my visa will expire and I will need to return to the UK. Without childcare or anywhere to live. HMRC told me to file a complaint, which I did 6 weeks ago, but I have received no reply. I call the helpline weekly and am given no further update and do not receive any of the callbacks that I am promised. As recently as two weeks ago, I was told by a telephone operator that they would post the A1 to me due the misinformation received, but I have since been told that this is not the case. Can somebody please help me? I do not know what to do and naturally this is causing huge mental strain for my family. All I need to fix this is the A1 certificate. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi JR,

I am sorry to hear that you have been provided with incorrect information regarding the timescale for processing your A1 application, and also the fact that you have not received any call backs as promised.
The current timescale for your online A1 application is 15 weeks.
The department who will process your application are currently working on post received on 26 May 2023.
Unfortunately, without having your personal details I am unable to access your records to check the progress of your application or call back requests.
Based on your circumstances I would suggest that you contact our helpline again, and ask for an urgent call back mentioning the fact that you have already filed a complaint about this.
