Unpaid Leave

An employer is deducting unpaid leave from employees at a higher rate than their normal pay rate (they are using annual salary / 227 days). Are they able to do this, or should the deduction be done at the normal pay rate. I have checked on Gov.uk but can't locate any guidance on this.
