Hi there,
Could I get some advice please before digging more into the problem we currently have?
Due to an error we have paid an employee who left in Maternity leave in Dec 24.
So we paid salary in December, January and February, total 3 months.
She wasn't entitled to Maternity pay so was issued with SMP1 form to claim Maternity allowance.
How do we get from here to correct the mistake please?
We have fist contacted the employee.
What are next steps please?
Thank you,
Ana Ionita Portland College

Hi,
If you have an agreeement the employee will repay overaid wages (this would be from their pocket or from thier net pay), you can amend your payroll to the correct figures. Please note you would only recover the net overpaid difference from the employee and not the gross difference.
Thank you.

Morning,
Thank you for your reply.
I am aware I can only recover the net overpayment.
We don't have an agreement for this and just discovered the overpayment after 3 months.
How can I correct the payroll considering there are 3 months worth of wages?
Is something I need to do on HMRC website or do I need to talk with our software help desk?
Thank you, Ana Ionita

Hi Portland College Charity
You should amend the payroll through your software. "Amending a previous pay period".
If you are unsure how to proceed you would need to speak to your software provider for assistance.
Thank you.
