Today I encountered a problem after updating the HMRC Basic PAYE Tools on my computer. The error message says "The application encountered a problem during startup" so I can't enable PAYE Tools. I beg for help. Can anyone help?

I have the exact same issue and cannot rectify it. PAYE tools has been fine for years until this week. I did try to download the update again off the website but no change.

I beg for help too. I am having the exact same problem. I’m on a iMac. I was using MacOS Ventura yesterday when I encountered the problem. I’ve upgraded to MacOS Sonoma today and I’m still getting the same error message when trying to launch the recently upgraded Basic Tools app. HMRC please urgently advise what the fix is. I have my final pay run to do within the next day!!

I recommend calling HMRC online services helpdesk: 0300 200 3600. I did so this morning and this error message appears to be a common problem that others have reported. Hopefully HMRC will provide a patch ASAP, but the more people who log the issue with the Helpdesk, the better, so that the issue gets escalated PDQ

Dear All. The Online Services Helpdesk are aware of this issue. They're working on a fix and will be issuing a new version of Basic Tools (version 25.1) by Friday 4 April. If you need to calculate your PAYE deductions in the meantime, you can call the HMRC helpline and they'll do net salary/tax/NI the calculations for you over the phone so that you can at least do your pay run before then. I don't know why HMRC can't just state that clearly here and save everyone the ongoing stress.
