Hello. My Partner received in October a letter advising for the tax year 6/4/24-5/4/25 circa £890 in tax to be collected by adjustment in tax coding, This is confirmed on her online tax account we subsequently opened. However she received in November a letter stating "your circumstances mean you need to complete a tax return" and creating a UTR for her account. The letter also mentions normally being contacted after 5th April if a tax return is needed. This is a little confusing, as she doesn't appear to need to complete a return for the tax year mentioned above. I am only seeking general guidance and if HMRC or any bright tax payer can advise, I would be very grateful. Many thanks

Hi,
We would need to access the record to check why the notice to file a Self Assessment tax return was issued.
Contact HMRC at Self Assessment: general enquiries.
You can also check the Self Assessment criteria at Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return
Thank you.
