All. I have a "standard" job and was on 1257L Tax code. Which should mean the correct tax is taken each month, easy. This year I earned 180 on a second one of job, on this they took £36 tax. Now end of year I have been hit with a £707 underpayment. Any guidance on why?

That really doesn't make sense. You say "This year" you earned £180 on a second job. Then go on to say "end of year...." This tax year (2023-24) hasn't ended yet so it's not possible for the final position to be known. Maybe you could clarify which tax year you are referring to? If it is from 2022-23, the last complete tax year, and you have received a tax calculation (P800 or PA302) then have you checked that to see where any discrepancy has arisen?

I see, some around "years" Last tax year I had my main employment and "standard" 1257L tax code, that should have taken the correct tax. It has worked fine every other year. Same tax year I had one extra "job" that paid one event of £180 that they took £36 tax from. I have now received a letter that I underpaid that tax year to the value of £707 that they will take from my salary next year. So it seems my £180 days work has cost me £707 or is there something else here?

Hi,

We wouldn't able to confirm the underpayment as we can't access your record. If you contact our Income Tax team we can review the calculation and advise accordingly.
