Hi all I make 27000 a year in my main role but since the last two months, I have been helping out with one of my family members, who have been paying me for this (though I said to them I wanted to help them for free)! I filled in one of the HMRC forms stating it was my second role etc, but I’m not sure if this was needed as it’s going to be a casual care arrangement and will never go over £1000. My queries are: Can I count this towards the “trading allowance?” Or does it go down as a taxable income? I did fill in the form as mentioned up above but it’s not yet shown on my HMRC account upon logging in. Maybe it takes time to update? Thank

Hi Lindsay,
Yes, this income would be covered by your trading allowance of £1000 - as such, you do not need to declare it, or complete a Self Assessment return. You can read more here - Trading allowance.
Thank you.
