Hello, I've recently left the UK and relocated to Italy indefinitely. My UK employ employment will continue and I will conduct my work remotely. I've been advised to apply for NT tax code to prevent being taxed at source in the UK. Could you please kindly confirm if these are my next steps - complete form-DT individual - complete p85 - complete residency page sa109 in my self-assessment return (I received a directors fee and dividends in tax year 2022/23) Is there anything I am required to do with regard to HMRC? Can the forms be submitted by myself, of must they go via an accountant? With thanks,

Hi,
DT form individual relates to pensions and annuitites only, so cannot be used.
If you do not need to complete self assessment tax returns, you would use the form P85 to request a NT tax code:
Get your Income Tax right if you're leaving the UK
If you do need to complete a self assesment tax return, you would compelete SA100 and any relevant supplementay pages, including SA109 and submit HS304 Non-residents tax relief under double taxation agreements (Self Assessment helpsheet HS304)
Thank you.

Hello Ness789 About to go through the same exact process as you did - any hints on how I should be contacting and working with HMRC (esp.wrt forms DT individual and P85)? Any assistance would be very much appreciated as trying to make my own and HMRCs life as straightforward as possible :-) thanks - Phil

Hi Phil, No useful advice I'm afraid. I submitted a P85 back in August 2023 and I'm yet to have any update from HMRC, other than that my case/submission is being reviewed (my accountant fed this back to me when they called to check on things on my behalf). Alas, no code yet. I wish I had more to say other than submit your forms asap as who knows how long it may take HMRC to process them! Best of luck with your move/relocation :)

Thanks Calvin. I have sent this shortly before eastern. Is there any way to track the process of this? And what happens if I haven't heard back until October 1st?

How can a Self Employed person get an NT tax code. Specially when he/she is doing one job on payroll and self employed work as well. In addition to that he/she is also not sure how much is he/she going to earn from his/her PAYE job. He/she can work very less to moderate in his PAYE job and might end up doing alot of hours in his/her self employed work. So in this situation can he/she request an NT tax code so he/she can pay the correct tax with his Self Assessment please accumulating both his/her self employed and PAYE income?

Hi,

You cannot apply for an NT code as self employed. Your PAYE job still requires a code number and tax will be deducted. You will declare them as the different sources on your tax return.

Thank you.

Hello, I recently moved to Spain on a Digital Nomad Visa but remain in full-time employment with a UK-based company and receive normal PAYE. On the 1st January 2025 I will become tax liable in Spain for their 2025 tax year. At this point I need to stop paying tax on my UK PAYE. At the same time I will continue to own a property in the UK which I generate income on and will likely to continue to pay UK tax on (acknowledging the fact that I expect to have a certificate for Beckham Law). What is the process and the form(s) to fill out to ensure that I stop paying UK tax on my PAYE salary from 1st Jan 2025 but can continue to pay self-assessment tax on the rental property? Does my UK employer need to do anything as well? Can I also ask on behalf of my partner if there is a form available to fill out that confirms the continued payment of NI in the UK? Is the CA3822 only for people who have been posted abroad, or can it also be used for people who has chosen to move abroad who work remotely? Or is there a different form that she can fill out that confirms her NI payments having chosen to move abroad? Thank you, Sam
