hi there, I need a document that proves UK Tax Residency to present to a foreign tax authority. There are no tax reclaims to be made on the back of it, but document needed solely to confirm my UK residence status (passport and bills are not accepted by the foreign authority). Can Certificate of Residence be requested in this case? Thanks

Hi,
A certificate of residence is only appropriate when the benefits of the double taxation treaty are being claimed. When an individual is required to provide evidence to an overseas authority that they are resident in the UK for tax purposes to meet a requirement of an overseas countries local law, then we will issue a letter of confirmation of residence.
If the request is solely for proof that you are living in the UK and is not for tax purposes a letter of confirmation is not appropriate. In these circumstances, you will need to contact the overseas authorities to determine what they will accept.
Thank you.

Hi.
A certificate of residence can be issued where there is a foreign income or capital gain.  A Letter of Confirmation would be issued where there is no foreign income, but there may be a tax implication. Both are requested by completing for online form here:

Thank you.
