In short, I am a UK/AT dual national. I need to move back to the UK, taking my Austrian job with me. I will be travelling to Austria for a couple of days to work with my team every four to six weeks. Details are still to be decided. Do I move my tax base to the UK? What do I need to be aware of please?

Hi,

This depends on your tax residence in the UK.

Please refer to:

RDR3 Statutory Residence Test

Thank you.

I have been advised that I can be paid in gross and self declare my foreign income each year. What happens with my class 1 national insurance contributions?

Hi MsCrow,
This can be done by setting up a DCNI scheme which will allow you to deduct and pay NI in the UK, to set this up please contact us on 0300 200 3200.
Please note it may not be appropriate to use this type of the scheme for a EU country following the changes from the UK withdrawal from the EU, you may have to speak to the national insurance helpline re this, they can be reached on 0300 200 3500.
Thank you.
