Dear team, I have just been self employed for half year then stopped (2023-24 tax year), my self employed profit was very low (far below 10k) only.. and I have just started a new part time job, my employer doesn't know I was self employed in the same tax year, what tax code should be used for this part time job? (obviously my total income won't exceed £12570), should they use 1257L, or BR, D0, D1 ? Thank you!

Hi kfa720 k,
If this is your only PAYE income then normally the standard code 1257L.
If you are on a different code then you will need to contact HMRC to review Income Tax: general enquiries
Thank you.

Hi Admin, Thank you for the reply. I have not filled in the employee starter checklist yet, so if the part time employer give me to fill in, which option (A, B, or C) should I choose? I have searched online saying the self-employment is not regarded. So I guess option A will be most suitable? Thank you!

Hi,

You would select the option that meets your circumstances. If this is option A then that is what you would select.

Thank you.
