Hi HMRC Community I am a resident in Spain since 2016 and under the Double Taxation agreement, my UK pensions have a tax code NT. Last year I started drawing up a new UK pension but it has a non NT tax code. I was advised by HMRC to submit a DT form for the new pension. The completed DT form plus Spanish Resident certificate and relevant payslips, were posted to BX9 1AS in September 2023. My Personal Tax Account in the HMRC app shows the document as “Received 27/09/2023”. Today – 24 January 2024, I have yet to receive a reply. I’ve been calling HMRC on +44 135 435 9022 but to no avail. Yesterday, I was cut-off after 25 minutes and now I’m on wait for 1hr 20 mins … so far! How long does HMRC to process a DT claim? Do I need to submit it again? Any advice would be much appreciated. Regards

Hi Eddy S ,
We do have a backlog at present and as you have confirmed HMRC have received your claim.
You should have a reply by end of February. there is no need to resubmit.
Thank you.

It is two months since I received the reply to my DT query... and still no news about my DT claim. I managed to contact HMRC by phone and I was assured that that it would be resolved by mid-February. At the beginning of March I contacted HMRC via the chat line and was told '...waiting for a technician to look at it for you ...Someone should contact you when this is completed'. HMRC received the requested documentation in 27-September-2023 AND NO reply after 6 months. I'm at lost what to do next... Shall I submit the claim papers again? Shall I add a recurring activity to my agenda to contact HMRC ? Shall I initiate an official complaint process against HMRC? Or .... Please advise Thanks

I submitted a DT form and HMRC received this In mid August. I have been told today end of Sept that I will receive a response in Mid Feb 2025. I cannot understand why this would take so long.? From the correspondence to other users on this forum going back years this seems to be the permanent situation. An nothing be done to improve this situation?

I submitted my DT claim form and HMRC confirmed receipt on 05/06/2024, status still set as received. Every time I call they give me a different date, last one was 23rd December. Chased again this week (another 45mm phone call) now told claim is in a queue and no estimated date provided. Pointless contacting HMRC. I did however receive a notice that I’d underpaid income tax in 2023/2024 by £1k, ironic as I was a tax resident in Portugal that year and shouldn’t have paid any UK tax but alas they still take it from source.

I submitted a double taxation form to HMRC at the end of November by registered mail and also sent an enquiry using the form available at https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/shortforms/form/CNR_Claims_SEF. However, I have not received any response yet. May I kindly ask how long it usually takes to process such claims?
