Hi, I am planning to set up a fundraising for environmental cause (legal support). The beneficiary is from a country that is not supported by the fundraising platform (gofundme), which means that I'll have to raise the money using my personal bank account. I thought of creating a separate one for this purpose only. I could not find any information on HMRC on this topic so I have no idea whether fundraising might affect my tax return. I am employed and pay my taxes. Do I need to inform HRMC that I will set up the fundraising and keep them posted on the amount I raise? All the sum will be transferred to the beneficiaries and the money will be raised through a registered fundraising platfom (gofundme). Thank you for your help!

Hi Ksenija Kolerovic,

As it is in a personal account, any interest generated would be seen as your income and form part of the personal savings allowance and you would need to declare
it as your own and not the fund.

Thank you.
