Hi All I know this has been posted up before, but has anyone experience this recently? I've been trying to submit my tax return since January and it's now March. I spoke to the helpdesk and they guy knew all bout it, he even prompted me with it before I told him. The issue is when I ytry to tailor my return - the 1st page is pretty straightforward are you a director etc... And when i submit the form, I get the tailor error telling me I can't delete a certain section, which I didn't try to do. The error message is not only wrong, but pretty useless. It give me no clue as to where the problem is. If I got a hint, I could try and correct any issue. Who writes this stuff? Now HMRC want to fine me £100 for late filing. A bit of joined up thinking would certainly help here. So.... I've appealed the penalty and awaiting a reply. I did get a message from Tech support acknowledging the contact and a case number, so that's handy. I spoke to the helpline yesterday and they said I should wait 3 weeks and try again. I'm a bit edgy in case HMRC refuse my appeal nad proceed to want to fine me more. It's all hard work and frustrating. If anyone's had the same, please let me know as i think this is a bug on the web site. I've done all the usual, cleared cookies and cache, different browser, different computer etc, but no joy. Cheers Steve

Hello I am having exactly the same problem. I fill in all the fields correctly and then get the same persistent message saying: "You cannot remove a Section from within '3. Tailor Your Return'." I haven't tried to remove a section. I have answered all fields correctly. And as you say there is no 'Delete' link, although I am unclear what it is I am supposed to delete, as everything has been inputted correctly. I tried both helplines and got nowhere. Have you had any update on this? Jonathan

Hi, i have spoke to online support and they helped me fix it. I was clicking 'no' under the first question about being employed/ a director ect. But i needed to click yes (i left my employment in march before the tax year but had a paycheck come through on the april start of the tax year whic caused the confusion). Once i clicked yes i filled out the place of employment and then i could state my self employment in the next question. Then it let me save and continue. It was a mixture of the system and me getting confused, hope this helps

I have same problem. Filling in tax return for my 68yr old wife whose circumstances have not changed for several years. No problem filling in last year or year before. Now cannot get beyond Section 3 because of the infernal 'Tailor Error', no matter which circles are dotted. Seems to always want her to be an employee, which she hasn't been for yonks. Have given up and will try again in a few days. I note it says 'this is a new service..' Can we go back to the old one which worked?
