I am an American citizen living and working in the UK since September 1996. I current pay taxes in the UK & US. I have been disabled May of 2023 and have been receiving monthly payments from a private disability insurance policy. The insurance was was paid out of my UK earnings after taxes. I currently need to file for self-assessments but not sure if I need to declare it based IPTM6110. I will need to declare and pay taxes for my US filings --> Will these payments need to be declared in the my self-assessment? If so, will this be declared under 'Any other overseas income and gains' ? The total payment received from this private disability insurance for the tax year is approximately £90,000 Many thanks for your help

Hi,
If you meet the conditions outline at
IPTM6110 - Sickness disability and unemployment insurance: tax treatment: main rules: scope of the exemption: ITTOIA05/S735
then you do not need to declare it in the UK.
Thank you.
