Good afternoon My employer is making a change to the company car scheme they offer by moving to Salary Sacrifice enabling staff to get a new car but low emission. I understand the cars on the scheme attract the 2% BIK rate & the monthly 'sacrifice payment' goes to the leaing company & covers the rental, insurance, maintenance etc of the car. They will be reporting this at year end to HMRC via P11d's however can someone give some guidance on what value I would pay tax on. For example, if I was to sacrifice £800 per month for a full tax year (so £9600) is this cash forgone figure then taken off the value of the car & the difference is then used for the BIK tax amount?

Hi Oakdene,
If salary is sacrificed in return for a company car you will pay Income Tax on either the amount of salary you sacrifice or the value of the car, whichever is the greater.
Thank you.
