Hi For tax year 2023-2024 I was in the UK for the whole tax year. This year I am going to be working in Hong Kong from September 2024 to March 2025. Whilst in Hong Kong I will be paid in Hong Kong dollars on the payroll of my UK employer's Hong Kong office. I was told that before leaving Hong Kong I will have to go and pay tax to the Hong Kong Authorities. Under the double tax treaty, will I only pay tax in Hong Kong? My concern is that I also get taxed by the UK when I return. Many thanks

Hi,

Under the terms of the double taxation treaty, payment for work carried out on Hong Kong soil is only taxable there.

Thank you.

Thank you. What would the position be if my salary is paid by my UK employer in GBP into my Uk bank account but I will be working and living in Hong Kong from September to March. Would I pay UK income tax or Hong Kong tax for the period while I am in Hong Kong (7 months)?
